Exciting news on the use of the ecological footprint

The ecological footprint calculation which we use in Sustainable Communities derives from the world-wide Global Footprint Network. The global network applies scientific data to construct the footprint calculations. The President of the Global Footprint Network reported in July that this past year has been one of the most exciting in Global Footprint Network’s history. Seven years since the organization’s founding, its efforts to bring ecological limits to the centre of conversations on the world’s future have paid off on a global scale. One of many signs of a broader turning of the tide has been the Stiglitz report, commissioned by President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, titled Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress. Produced by a team that included several Nobel Prize-winning economists, the report proposed new national indicators of progress, and devoted 12 full pages to the Ecological Footprint.
