Council elections

Local Government is an important part of the democratic framework of Australia, and the level with the closest contact with the community, or at least it should be. The community elects their Council Members every four years and the next general Council elections will conclude in November, 2014. If you have an interest in these elections either with a slight or “major” desire to nominate, or are just interested in the process, there will be a community forum held for the Norwood Payneham and St Peters Council area on May 19th. The following link will provide more information.

Council Election Forum May 2014 Media Release

Most of us have at some time complained/commented on the actions of their local council so now is an opportunity to have a more active role and help to develop the type of community we wish to live in … hopefully we will see you there.  Deb.

  1. I am a bit confused. Are you saying that all councils re-elect their councillors at the same time? Is this the council elections and are they held at the same time for all councils or does the timing differ? Your link is about the Norwood & St Peters council area but I imagine that a lot of the experiences and processes would carry over to all councils. I plan to attend anyhow and would love to meet other SC people there.

  2. HI as I understand it all SA councils have elections around this time but I have only posted information about the area that I live in. Having said that I believe the forum will be relevant to all local government areas.
