Climate march Sunday 29 November 2015

Prior to becoming active on the issue of climate change, I’d only ever attended one march. I was extremely nervous as I arrived at Rundle Park last year. I didn’t have a fancy, clever banner like some people and I really didn’t want to seem radical. However I was desperately concerned about the backward steps our federal government was taking on climate change and decided to show courage and turn up.

I’m not sure that I felt particularly brave at the time, but later on as I watched the footage of the 420,000 people march in New York City and heard Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner’s beautiful poem, I knew that I’d done the right thing.

I won’t say that I love marching, but I’m going to march again on Sunday 29 November. The meeting place is the Torrens Parade Ground, King William Street at 11am.
