Aldinga Arts Ecovillage Open Day

Aldinga Arts Eco Village is holding an Open Day – 10am to 4pm Sunday 5 November 2017

Building on this 34 hectare village began in 2002 on what was a degraded and barren horse agistment property. Since then the land has slowly been regenerated and is currently home to over 300 people living in an assortment of low-energy dwellings along with shared orchards and open spaces.

The village is certainly an ongoing experiment in a community of people trying to live more lightly on the earth. There is both a focus on environmental sensitivity and artistic creation throughout the village which can be seen in the range of homes including straw-bale, hebel, colorbond, mudbrick and rammed earth and in the various experimental features that have been incorporated to reduce the ecological impact. There are also village wide design aspects like a community waste-water treatment plant, composting facilities and the Village Greens Market Garden that reflect the village’s ethos. While community meetings and working bees enable all residents to participate in the running of their community.

The Open Day will feature walks, talks and tours of some of the energy-efficient houses, permaculture gardens, artist studios and roving performers. A walk through the village’s organic farm will take in the abundant orchards, the ‘tiny house’, the award winning Village Greens Market Garden, composting and the community waste-water treatment plant. Refreshments will be available all day as well as roving performers.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids, littlies free. Family/concessions available.

Aldinga Arts Eco Village is at 173 Port Road, Aldinga. Plenty of parking is available at the entrance to the village.
