AGM 2026 Sustainable Communities SA attendees - one man is standing up to hold a presentation

Reports from our projects

Helen from The Wild South provided an update on their many Toxic Surf Algal Bloom events and Walk for Water.

Peter from Grow Grow Grow Your Own (GGGYO) provided an update on their work and relationship with the Unley Council and encouraged other projects to compile activities and photos as a means to celebrate their work and to assist for applying for funding.

James from Churchill Greening spoke to process of working with council to develop a community garden in Ovingham and how this relationship had changed the timing and direction of the initial concept, and how this has also led to being involved in RailCare around Ovingham Rail Station.

Eleanor from Mission Possible introduced the work the group as a community energy advisory service, and Switchfest event they are holding on 1 August. She also spoke to the work the group is involved in developing a case study for electrification of housing co-ops.

Committee Updates

As SCSA committee members, Peter also advised that himself and Eleanor had met with the Environment Minister's advisor and was now on the Sustainable Community SA mailing list.

Eleanor presented the benefits of membership, requirements for projects to advise the committee of any changes to members promptly and advised on changes as of 2026/27:

● Cost has increased to $15 (this is the first time membership fees have increased Cost since creation of SCSA in 2008!)

● We are aligning all membership fees to the middle of the year - the next

membership payment for all SCSA members will be June/July 2027.

● Everyone will receive payment reminders via email at least 1 month before the due

date.

● SCSA will request updated volunteer lists for all SCSA Project at least 1 month before aligned renewal date to make sure all our records are up-to-date. This is us making sure all volunteers are covered under our insurance. We will request this list via email to all project coordinators.

● Similarly for insurance purposes, the ‘Household’ membership option has been removed. All volunteers will now be required to hold an individual SCSA membership.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, contributed to the discussions, and continues to dedicate their time, knowledge, and passion to building more sustainable communities across South Australia.

We're excited about what lies ahead and look forward to another year of collaboration, learning, and positive impact.
